Burger series begins! - In-N-Out burger

It is 2012! As part of this new year I have decided to do a start a 2012 Burger series. Not a burger expert but have a major craving so here goes.

So first stop was a pit-stop. On our way back to Australia we had a 4 hour layover at LAX. Not quite enough time to head anywhere decent but enough time to slip out to the nearest In-N-Out Burger to see what the fuss is all about.

Burgers and fries

The menu is simple. Double cheeseburger, cheeseburger, hamburger, fries and drinks. A little bit underwhelming but when our burgers and fries arrived I was surprising impressed.

Hamburger

The hamburger is made up of a juice meat patty, fresh lettuce and tomato, thick slice of the optional raw onion, and a creamy sauce. First and foremost the bun is not the artificial deflate-in-a-bite type typically found in most fast food joints. It is solid, a little sweet, not up to Italian or French standards but pretty decent for fast food. The meat is juicy and well cooked and the lettuce, tomato and onion are all fresh and firm. The sauce is a mix of mayonnaise, ketchup, chopped pickles and other spices I could not quite pinpoint.

Cheeseburger

Mr Z. tried the cheeseburger which was basically the same as the hamburger but double patty and with a slice of the American cheese. Unfortunately despite spending years in the USA I still cannot get used to this fluorescent cheese so I'm going to leave this one up to personal preferences.

Overall a great start to the burger series. I would have to say this is the best fast-food burger I have had. For those who do find the menu a little bit limiting there is a "secret menu" which accommodates to the low-carb diets, the cheese fanatics and meat lovers alike.
